Baiting Hollow hummingbird sanctuary is not a place where you come to party. In fact, you stay very still there to observe hummingbirds drinking nectar from the feeders, otherwise they fly away. Every time I visited there, people were very respectful and polite. I can't imagine how much noise and disturbance they were making for the neighbor to file a lawsuit. But unfortunately people with money tend to win, and the owner of the property is now closing it down to public. This was my last chance to see it. I certainly enjoyed the two hours I spent there. It was so peaceful and quiet that you just don't want to leave. The amount of work this owner put into his property to plant flowers that attract hummingbirds is truly amazing. He's a kind and honest man who just wanted to educate public about nature and introduce them to hummingbirds. It was a job well-done, in my opinion.

Baiting Hollow Hummingbird Sanctuary - Long Island, NY
About a year and a half ago I left New York to come to Fresno for a fellowship at one of the largest health systems here. Last week was the first time I went back to Long Island. I planned to see a couple of my friends and visit a hummingbird sanctuary, a beautiful private place I visited several times before. This time was a special one. The sanctuary is closing down because of the lawsuit filed by a neighbor who somehow disliked limited number of people (usually 10-13 on several acres of land isolated by trees and shrubs) coming to his neighbor's property to watch hummingbirds. It is unfortunate that this has to happen. People become so engulfed in their own needs and desires that they often forget about values of other humans.

Weaver Lake Trail in Sequoia National Park
I always complain how much I dislike Fresno, and I really do, but its proximity to several National Parks is certainly a benefit, especially if you want to explore different trails. I used to mostly hike with groups, but lately I have not been able to find Meetups that go to hike the trails I want to hike. Hence, I decided to do some solo hiking.
Weaver Lake Trail is rated a moderate hike due to elevation gain and mileage. In and out 6.6 miles, the trail gains about 1,350 feet in elevation and ends in a lake. I loved the hike! No mosquitoes and limited flies on the way, and peaceful forest with some views on the way to the lake. Weaver Lake is pretty amazing itself. Crystal clear water, comfortable 72°F, even with some swimming, if you'd like.
