Italy Trip - Day 4: Florence

This day's itinerary was set a bit tight... And guess who did it? Me!

I checked out of my AirBnb and went to Rosemary for breakfast (or an espresso with a cup of fruit). An espresso did not do it for me, so my bag and I, destined to spend the whole day together, dragged our butts to another coffee shop where we (hmm, I...) spent €3 to just sit down and sip this deliciousness (or so I hoped) before catching a train to Florence.

The train ride was quite relaxing and pleasant, although I knew that I needed to rush to Medici Chapels right after arriving to Florence. Murphy's law, the train was 20 minutes delayed and the two of us (my bag and I) practiced speed walking to Medici Chapels. Sweaty and late, I arrived at the ticket counter and was graciously given the prepaid tickets. I was also allowed to leave my friend (the Bag) at the entry to gracefully enjoy the visit, solo.

Medici Chapels is another amazing human creation that leaves you wonder how hardworking and talented some people were back in the days. The effort it took to piece together carved out by hand pieces of marble to make something that takes your breath away is unbelievable.

While Medici Chapels was not too crowded, Accademia Gallery was. Even with a preset time and a reservation, I had to wait in line for a while. Inside it was packed with people, but mostly around the well-known statue of David by Michelangelo. While it was interesting to see this work of art in person, I don't have an eye for art and sculpture. I might look at it and say to myself, "Hmm, this looks nice," but I don't understand it to fully appreciate.

The gallery had many other interesting sculptures and paintings, but these hallways were not as crowded as the one with David.

I was quite tired after walking around and stopped by at another non-planned restaurant, which turned out to be pretty amazing. Probably one of the best pizzas I have had!

After a good lunch, I headed to the Piazza della Signoria, which was a surprisingly cool venue. Statues of gigantic sizes were around all over.

My next stop was Uffizi Gallery. Even with a reservation and a timed entry, I had to wait half an hour to get in. Crowds were really getting to me at that point. My feet were killing me, and my friend, the Bag, seemed heavier and heavier as the day went by. I left the bag at the cloakroom and started moving through the galleries. Even without good taste for art, I enjoyed the paintings and sculptures there. Coming later in the afternoon was the right choice because as it got closer to closing, people started to leave and I finally was able to enjoy peace and quiet.

There was something captivating in this simple painting, not sure what...

On my way to have dinner at the restaurant I was hoping to get in, I stopped by the Ponte Vecchio, a really cool bridge with super expensive stores selling watches and jewelry, but still quite unique because of the fact that these stores were built on a bridge!

Finally, it was time for dinner! Pensavo Peggio was the restaurant that everyone raved about. It was true. There I had the best lasagna I have EVER had in my life!

The day ended not only deliciously, but with a nice sunset too as I was walking to my next AirBnb, which turned out to be pretty great!
