Italy Trip - Travel Days 1-2: Rome

After preparing for this trip for so long, it is finally time to go. My travel included 5 parts:

1) Drive to San Jose and drop off the car at Park N Travel (make reservations here);
2) Take shuttle from Park N Travel to the airport;
3) 10 hr flight to London, then 2 hr layover;
4) 3 hr flight to Rome;
5) Take train from Fumicino Airport to Roma Termini train station in Rome and walk to the AirBnb.

Looks long, doesn't it? And yes, it was a long trip, really really long...

I arrived at the AirBnb later in the evening, around 10 PM, and with a little bit of trouble getting the hold of the host and some help from the passing by people, I finally was in the room where I would spend the next 2 nights. I was cheap, really cheap, and they say you get what you pay for... This is true... While the room offered privacy and a relatively comfortable bed, the bathroom was disgusting with shower rarely cleaned and hot water going in and out.

Did I mention that it was really hot, and without air conditioning, the only cooling option was an old fan with removable top (not really intended to be removable, but was craftly modified with a piece of metal for support purposes...) and an open window which looked out onto the yard. What I didn't realize is how much Italians smoke. Including people in the neighboring apartments, so in addition to a nice and warm temperature, I was honored with second hand smoke exposure.

"It's ok," I said to myself. "I really need to sleep now, and tomorrow things will be looking up." And so they did...
